taken yesterday at a' meeting of the
Multnomah committee : at headquar
ters In the Selling building, to estab
lish outside organizations at once and
to spread the general campaign com
mittee .throughout the state as quickly

This action was taken when; letters
were read to the committee by Ben
Selling, chairman, from many repub
lican leaders In various parts of the
state, saying that the republicans ev-

Senator Gowan'. "Everyone in our part
of the state Is more. than, satisfied with
conditions during the Taft adminlstra
tlon. There Is no criticism" of any a&
count and as yet no opposition to his
re-election...-1 believe the president is
drawing In strength. So strong, ar5
we for President Taft that we have
started a Taft committee of our owii
and we are enlarging the membership
constantly."
"We . will have- a good republican
majority when the returns come in,"
said Mr. Purlngton, "Harney used to
be a democratic county but this has
all been changed.'' .
Union Also In Line. ,
. Union county also was heard from
at yesterday's meeting. J. H. Peare,
chairman, of the Union county central
committee, wrote ' Chairman Selling
that the committee Is desirous, to set
to work to bring about the re-election
of President Taft. Mr. Peare forward-
led a list of stalwarts among the ve-publlcans-of
that county who will bo
formed 'into' a strong . organization
that is expected to do great work lu
that part of the state throughout the
campaign.
A - number of letters, from other
counties were received,- all of which
indicate that Taft sentiment is strong
and that he Is wanted as the republl
can candidate for president again this
year.
The progress of the campaign which
in under way by the. Taft committee
, has beon marked during the. last few
days, according to a report made by
Chairman Selling. He said the work
is being rushed as rapidly as possible

preparation for the public meetings
which are to be held throughout the

The committee will meet again next
Monday afternooh at 4:30 o'clock
when it Is expected the campaign will
be well started not only In Multnomah
county, but also In most all the other
