S. NATIONAL BANK La Grande, Ore. (By 0.' E. Moran.) ? No man has reached the acme of! business success. ' Heights that we do not dream of will be attained by tweiiUeth century merchants,1 I oiu oue of those who .believe- that there Is no limit to the possibilities of hu man achievement. : This la the frame of mind one gets into after looking nt suth stores as Wnnaraaker's In Philadelphia and New York, Soliiol Coope" romjiMny In Chicago a id New Vork, and Macy's In New Yorv The vat scone of such enterprl jrs the magnificent system', the quick, lori business wit that-It takes i d'rcct them these give one confidence !n futuro Purcesses. These grai stores owe their grawoth to advertising to the diffusion of sicre news for of w:i. ut-e r.ro the fines store'i and tlio bif,gou tiirralns If people kno noth ing of tl I'm?. The nolence of a lvartls Ing is In itf. infancy. It Is growing In' It jioi lance ani ffliclency every 'It ".ucil to be a sy-iiiatlve venture. Now It Is a sclentifli! certainty Ad vertising Is merely telling people in a telling way what you can' do for them. If you tell them often enough and In the right way, there is no pos sibility of failure. , No man ever yet made a success of .. business , without advertising of i some sort. Maybe he didn't call It ' advertising, but it was advertising Just the same., Advertising primarily consists in letting a lot of people know you are in existence and what excuse you may have for It. When a man , goes into business he has some cards printed and when he meets an ac quaintance thereafter he pokes out a card and says; "When you're down my waydrop in." - ; '.,: ':. That's advertising,. " The trouble Is that you can't repeat the operation often enough personal ly. What you can do is to put the card and the remark, more or less elaborately expressed, Into a paper of large, circulation, and have it banded to hundreds of people all in one day. The difference in men that makeB one do this and another refuse is small. That is, it looks small at the start. It's lake most all little things. When you Btop t analyze It you find that it grows into proportions of great magnitude. An advertisement (n a paper Is a little thing, but it goes into hundreds of homes, and tells' hundreds of people Just what you most wish them to hear, v.', are expected from this special effort.
