Washington,- Jan. 20. Senator Al bert Cummins of Iowa today announc ed his candidacy for the republican presidential nomination. - His declara tion that he is In the .field against President Taft and Senator R. M. Xa Follette has caused a tremendous political sensation. , In a statement he says: "So much has been written and published and said concerning the presidency that I feel it my duty to make a plain Btate ment to the republicans of Iowa. , 1 previously1 made known ' my opinion concerning the presidency but since then the conditions have changed. "More than one candidate is to be considered. "if the republicans of Iowa believe I am fitted as a candidate,' : will appreciate and accept their con fidence as gratifying evidence of their fallh in my promise to serve the best I can the general welfare of tlie peo ple." . ; 1 So Split Necessary."
