Because, of the bad weather and the presence in La Grande of Florence Roberts, Thurlow Bergen and Theo dore Roberts, the management of the Elks opening dancing party has an nounced a postponement of thte evnt until a future date. The disagreeable weather Is forbidding many Elks from Elgin and Cove and outlying districts in general from attending as going IS bad for rig and auto alike.' The an nouncement of thte postponement comes lates and all Elks have been notified as far as possible, not to make any effort to attend this evening. R eorder of the City of La Grande, Orepori. . 10-7-1 Ot Fiye hours' deliberation by the Jur ors after they had been given the evi dence' connected with the accusation of horse stealing preferred againBt John Spain, king; of buckaroos of the northwest, his friends, Henry Mc Grath and Zibe Morse, was sufficient for them to attain an agreement on a verdict of not guilty. It Is said about the court houso that the first .ballot stood 10 to 2 for acquittal and It took but HtUe persuasion to change the others. The Jurors went to supper at 6 o'clock so there was hardly more than four hours of actual deliberation in reaching a verdict. The three defendants expressed themselves as greatly appreciating the outcome of th9 trial and are confident that they have been exonerated in this, minds of all their friends of the charges preferred against them.
