Mr. Jardlne,. who has during th) past four years, been overseeing the work carried on in connection with the forest service coyote proof pas- tune, visited the pasture last week in order to secure weight of sheep turn- ed loose to graze last April, says the Wallowa Sun. The results were high- ' ly gratifying and will be of great interest to the stockmen of this coun ty. ' On June 26, when the sheep were placed In the pasture, twenty average sized lambs were weighed and mark ed. They were In poor flesh at the time and averaged 45.15 pounds. They were weighed again on September 21, after half a day off feed. The aver age weight was 68.85 pounds an av erage gain of 23.70 pounds. The same number of lambs on an outside band belonging to 'Mr. Dob bin, were weighed on Junev.26 and averaged 53.95 .poinds. These, lambs were in' good condition and were two weeks older than the pasture lambs. They were weighed again on Sspt. 20 and- average 75.6 pounds, showing a gain of 21.65 .pounds. .The result of the experiment shows that tha pas ture band, grazing at will, made a heavier gain than the outside bunch. Less range was used by the pasture sheep and the loss was Vi of 1 per cent as against 2 V4 per cent in the outside band. v ' tlce to Creditors.
