lin moth and other bug posts is the
latest Innovation Introduced In mod
ern apple orcharding In the Spokane
valley, where W. M. Frost of Oppor
tunity, Wash., and J. C. Lawrence, a
practical grower of Spokane, last
night what is declared to hav been
the first demonstration' of its kind
in the world. The test was made in
a six-year-old orchard and more than
a score of second-brood moths . and
many green aphis were killed in a
few moments. '
The apparatus consists of a storage
battery to charge , the ' incandescent
light globes, each of six candle pow-

wire, coated with copper and tin al
ternately, , Attracted by the bright
lights in the tress, to which the globes
are carried at the ends of a covered
wire, the moths fly against the net
ting, complete the elctrlct circuit and
are instantly killed, the bodies falling

T' Frost estimates that one 'battery to
an acre of trees will keep the moths
under control, thus eliminating the
usual spraying and saving many dol
lars annually for help, equipment and
fluid. V ie is now preparing to wire
his orchard of 10 acres, containing
700 trees, and several neighbors, who
witnessed the test, are doing likewise.
It is reported that several thousand
acres of bearing trees will I equip
ped with exterminators by next

expense of batteries may ba saved by

' Spokane, Aug. 26.--Richard Adams
a half-breed Delaware Indian, who
represented the Choctaw tribe In a
similar action and secured $12,000,000
has been retained by the Nez Perce
Indiana of Northern Idaho to recover
$15,000,000 from the United"5 States
government for lands in various parts
of the Northwest taken from them by
federal authorities. This ' was de
cided upon at a council - continuing
several days at Lapwai agency, at
which arrangements were also made
to securo all the available data, to ba
used when the case Is presented to
thet courts. : At a council to take
place in a few days at Lapwai agency
a committee will toe .named, by Silas
Whitman, an educated Nez Perce' In
dian, to assist Adams in compiling a
list of the lands, claimed by the tribes
men. Adams has expressed confidence
in winning the case and has underta
ken the work on a contingent fee of
10 per cent of the amount awarded
in tbe event the Justness of the claim
is established, otherwise he is not to
receive a penny from the Indians for
his efforts In their behalf, v ."
Aged Couple Harried.
Spokane, Wash Aug. 26. David P.
Roblo, 70 years of age, a retired
blacksmith, living at Greenacres, Wn.,
and Mrs. Sarah J. Crocker 63 years
of age, living in Spokane, and own
ing valuable real estate property in
and near Indianapolis and other parts
of Indiana, were married in the Spo
kane : county court house yesterday,
the service being read by Justice S.
C. Hyde, who C represented eastern
Washington in congress in territorial
days. Mrs. Blanche Johnson, daugh
ter of the bride, and Miss S. E. Roble,
daughter of the bridegroom, witnes
sed tbe ceremony. Roble, who is a
native of New Hampshire, came to -the
Spokane district more than 35 years
ago and participated in the develop
ment of this part of eastern Washing
ton. He owus a large apple orchard
at Greenacres, in the Spokane valley,
and la Interested in several other In
dustries. Mr. and Mrs. Roble now are
preparing for a trip to the middle-
western states and will pass some
time In Indiana, going afterward to
Manchester and other cities in New
