Because a carload of pipe was de-f
railed near the North Fir Btreet cros
' 6lng yesterday afternoon .passengers
on the Incoming Joseph train had to
I -walk to town, or wait until the track
- was clear. Most of them preferred
to walk and ambled through the dust
I and cinders to the depot platform. The
I derailment was finally righted - and
I traffic resumed.

The North Powder jail was destroyed
by fire last night. No one seems to
know how the blaze' originated and
when it was discovered It had gotten
beyond the power of the local firemen
to put out A new Jail will be built of
concrete In tb3 near future. .
Other Powder Items.
The, Forrstrora building is rapidly
nearing completion and Mr. Forrstrom
expects to have his stock In place
within a very short time.
Work has been commenced upon
the big ice house for the Pacific Fruit
Express, which recently purchased
the Ice plant and ponds of Andrew
Lun. The building will be a., huge

plans, will be large enough to permit
the icing of the entire train at one

of the hotel. On the ocean side, Im

bedrooms, so constructed as to be
available for use as suites of as high
