That the great yellow pine btlt ex tending from Bend to Crescent is badly Infested with the pine beetle and that a considerable quantity of l the timber in that section has b?en ; killed by the beetle is the statement of William B. Turner, in charge of (the co-operative work in the forest ' Insect investigation at this place, who has returned from a three weeks' auto trip through that section, says ! the Baker Herald. Mr. turner made I the trip at the request of the owners ' of the timber. ; He Is now at work on his report to ; the bureau of entomology, department I of agriculture. This body of yellow J pine is known as one of the largest in area and finest in qulatiy in the country. His trip covered the country in the Black Butte district at the head of the j Metolus river to Crescent at the head waters of the Deschutes river.
