Between 6,000 and 7,000 people saw the Sells-Floto circus lu La Grande yesterday afternoon and eve nlng according to careful estimates Issued by the show managers. The afternoon atteiidancj was almost 6,000 and the evening crowd brought the total figures up to nearly 7,000 for the day. ,i '. ,The show was well liked, and al though somewhat on the order of oth tr circuses, It did have some special features. The high grade of horse flesh carried by the ehow and the high attainment of its horse trainers were especially good ftatures. , , : ; Bill Cll LARGE H 0KLA1I0MANS IS LA GRAXDE JfOW NUMBER 25. Contractor Last to Arrive From Ok lahoma Town to Live Here, , Tom Henderson and family, of Med ford, Oklahoma,, arrived last evening and will Join th; Medford colony here. This swells the total of former Med ford people in and about La Grande to the noticeable total of 25. ' ,, That all who desire have found em ployment not only speaks , Will for what the Grande Rondervalley has td offer but also for the acceptability of these people as citizens. Mr. Henderson was formerly a mem ber of the first of Brown & Sons, con tractors and builders, of Medford, and commiifces work Monday with one of La Grande's local contractors. I CHURCH AND LABOR. Instead of ridiculing the church for, sending 25,000 missionaries , aud spending $25,000,000 for the -mentul. and moral education ot humanity. It seems to' me that la bor should bid it ffodxpeed. , A.nd when labor, by causing safety appliances to be Installed in in dustrial works by legislation, saves the lives of thousands, then I Bay, Instead of fault be ing found with labor we as churchmen should bid labor godspeed. Moreover, we should not become interested In tbe chil dren of Africa merely, but also ; y in the children of the whole ' ; world. The commercial world, the industrial world, the politi cal world, all these are subject to redemption. Some people re gard this old world as a sinking ship, from whicji only a few must be rescued, while tbe truth is that all must be rescued hu manity in its entirety. Rot. Charles Stelzle. r 1 J.
