The fun started with Allen trying to outrun Childers from thjrd instead of throwing the ball; Allen let Conley score on a boot, Booths Clark booted and let Mcnnis score and shortly af ter let Childers score. When the er ratic playing ended it was a gooJ game throughout. I La Grande pulled off a bonehead play or. two and made a few errors but ust the same gava the crowd its money's worth with hard pitching and good fielding. The Union .fielders messed up so many bingles that it looks like Smith was almost invincible for the visitors are peppery enough to. get in the way of a hit but couldn't complete the play af ter knocking the ball down, The re sult was few hits and lota of errors. . Stoddard Injured. In the fifth inning Stoddard . was quite severely injured in trying to stretch a clean single to a twobagger. He collided with Sheets at second and sprained his ankle very badly, and will be out of the game for some time, it is feared. "Sticks" Woods, son of Joe Woods, a former liveryman of this city, and who has recently returned from school, was nut on the initial sack and surely made good wtih the I fans. He Is a left hander and had to. use a right handed man's glove but. has a peculiar twist in receiving that pleased the fans Immensely. The players got to teasing him with over throwing for the fun of seeing him retrieve from the upper air currents. Though he got but one chance at the bat, the profuse glad hand the grand stand gave him -rattled him and ha fanned. He has bloissomed into a very fair first baseman while out of town.
