creating Improvement district No. 7,
and designating Monroe avenue as
such district and in pursuance of a
resolution adopted by said common
council oh the 12th day of April, 1911.
whereby Bald council determined and
declared its intention to improve' all
that portion of Monroe avenue la said
improvement district as hereinafter
described, by building cement walks
5 feet wide, the council will, ten days
after the service of this notice upon
the owners of the property affected
and benefitted by such Improvement,
order that said above described im
provement be made; that the boundar
ies of said district to be so Improved
are as follows: . 1 .
All that portion of Monroe avenue,
from the east line of North Fir street,
tothe west line of North Spruce street.
(A) And the property affected or
benefitted by said-improvement Is as
follows: All the north half of blocks
122, 123 and ,121. and the south half
of block 147 and 149, all in Chaplin's
addition to the city of La Grande, Ore

Oregon, on the 5th day of August, 1909
creating Improvement District No. 4,
and designating Washington avenue
as such district, and in pursuance of
a resolution adopted by said common
council on the 12th. day of April, 1911
whereby said council determined and
declared its intention to improve all
that portion of Washington avenue in
said improvement district as hereinaf
ter described, by laying thereon bitu-
lithic pavement, the council will ,ten
days after the service of this notice
upon the owners of the property af
fected and benefitted by such improve
ment, order that said above described
improvement be made; that the boun
daries of said district to be so improv
ed are as follows:
All that portion of Washington ave-
nue from the east curb line of First
street, to the east, line of Fir street.
(A) And the property affected or
benefitted by said improvement is as
follows: All-the property in the
north 1-2 of block 1, 9 and 14, Gran-
dy's addition, and in the north 1-2 of
blocks 101, 102 and 104; Chaplin's ad
dition and the south 1-2 of blocks 2,
8 and 15, Grandy's additiou and the
south 1-2 or blocks 105, 106 and 107
Chaplin's addition, and the N. E. 14
of block 99 and the S. W. 1-4 of block

ment on all the property affected and
benefitted by such improvement for
the purpose of paying for such Im
provement. That the estimated cost
of such improvement is the sum of
$25,820.00. That the council will on
the 10th day of May, 1911, meet at the

The resolutions committee appoint
ed. at the semi-annual convention of
the Union county Sunday school as
sociation, has made Its report. The
convention meets at Cove next tlnia,
when the annual election of officers
will be' held.' The resolutions commit
tee's report follows: "''
We, as committee on resolutions of
the Union county Sunday school con
vention, held at Allcel,, Oregon, May
2 and 3. 1911, report the following:
First, That we exteud our heartfelt
thanlfs to the officers of the conven
tion for the able program which they
have prepared and so successfully
ten fried out. : '
; Second, That we are v extremely
grateful to Rev, Chas. A.: Phipps for
his presence and able ; addusses he
has given us, and al3o for the inspir
ation we have received from his talks
Third. That we, as delegates and
representative 8 of the various schools
of Union county extend' our thanks

ity for their cordial welcome and
their royal entertainment they have
given us,; and assure you we shall
hold you In remembrance as a people
who are wide awakef and always, wil
ling to help along the cause of the

Fourth, That we advise the Sundar
school people generally,, to, make a
special effort " this year, to , acquaint
themselves with the tcmperauce work
so that they may be able to do more
effective work for the cause of tem
perance in the future. " ;
Fifth, That we deplore the fact that
out of the' number of minister of th:
gospel In the Grande Ronde valley on
ly SO per cent, of them were present
at this convention; but we rejoies in
the. fact that all the Sunday schools
In Union coujity, with the exception of
one, were represented in this conven
tion; and we also rejoice for the gen
eral spirit and , interest shown
throughout the entire session.

Methodist church Thursday evening

gate to the annual conference and
Mrs.. Olive Bolton is the alternate.
This conference will be held in Cald
well in August, at which time a pas
tor will be appointed for La Grande
and a delegate chosen from among the
ministers and one from the laymen
to attend the annual conference meet
ing in Minneapolis, In May of 1912.
