Rare Confederate Stamps.
New York, March 23. The most not
able sale of rare confederate state
postage stamps that has ever taken
place in this city was .begun today.
The collection is that of the late Philip
La Tourette. The stamps are all of
the .provisional issues. Among the
choicest items in the collection are
the Abingdon, Va five-cent, on orange
paper, and the Autaugaville( Ala., five
cent, on white paper. Many other rare
varieties are Included in the collection
some of them valued as high as $250
each.
Kaiser's Daughter to Visit England.
London, March 23. In response to a
special Invitation from King Georg
and Queen Mary, Princess Victoria
Louise of Prussia will accompany Em
peror William and the German em
press on their visit to London in May
to attend the dedication of the Queen
Victoria memorial. It will be the first
visit of the princesB to England.
Reception for Roosevelt,
Berkeley. Cal., March 23. Presi
dent and Mrs. Benjamin Ide Wheeler
of the university of California held a
reception In Heart Hall this afternoon
in honor of Colonel and Mrs. Theodore
Roosevelt. Colonel Roosevelt is here
to deliver the series of Earl lectures
at the university.

making elaborate arrangements for a
dinner and reception next Monday eve
ning In honor of Theodore Roosevelt.

will take place at the Fairmont hotel.

Columbus. O., March 23. The Cen
tral Electric Railway association held
its annual convention In this city to
day. The meeting was attended by ex
ecutive and operating officials of many
of the leading lnterurban lines of In
diana, Ohio and Michigan.
