and Sullivan's operas, having enjoy
ed phenomenal runs In all the larger
cities of this country and Europe. In
one of the leading theatres of Lopdon
It Is still running for the sixteenth
tonsecutlve season with some of the
name people in the cast as when first
(produced by Sir Arthur Sullivan.
Unlike many of the popular musi
cal comedies of the present day, Pin
afonei has an excellent plot and many
of the situations are very amusin
while the dialogue is bright and wit
ty. The music is perhaps the best of
anyf Sir Arthur Sullivan's compo
sitions, although there are many fine
arias In the Mikado and other operas
by this composer, but non can com
pana with the great song of Josephine
"The Hours Creep on Apace," which
Is really a grand opera aria. To tne
character of Josephine, the Captain's
daughter falls the most of the diffi
