The plant, which thrives in arid dis tricts, where others die from heat and lack of moisture, Is similar to tame al falfa. The blossom Is a pinkish white and resembles the plant brought to this country from Russia by Professor Hanson of South Dakota, who was sent abroad br the government to find a plant adapted to semi-arid districts. The pods are the same size and shape as those of tame alfalfa. Mr. Heidman found the plants in the Hoodoo valley, formerly given over to placer gold miners, in a spot where there is no chance for even nature to sub-irrigate plant life and where all Vegetation is has sent specimens of the plant t practically dead.
