The plan' consists of nothing less than a monster open air production of that noted play, "The Squaw Man." which, is to be staged at the ball park with full scenery and effects, including the LaGrando band and real cow boy Indians. .In the east and sunny southland, open air dram atics are in vogue and in fact the most up-to-date of any style of amusement patronized by the better class of the ater goers. , Miss Ethel Tucker, now playing at the Airdome has dreamed what she calls a "Midsummer Night's Dream", of an amusement for La Grande, the likes of which has never before been attempted before, nor even thought of. . Mr. Charles . W. Baker her manage, is attempting to realize her dream and viri bo doing has leased the ball park, purchased lumber and engaged a force of carpenters who are busy cre ating a mammoth stage, setting scen ery and all the details for this gigan tic production of one of the greatest plays on the American stage. The proposition consists of a regu lar amphitheatre staged In front, bril liant light effects, splendid music by the La Grande band, genuine cow- , boys, Indians and everything that will go to make up one of the greatest pro ductions for a town of this size that has ever been attempted. ; , The play will be that beautifully written and Intensely absorbing , dramatization of the "Squaw Man," by "Squaw Man." In the production ' staged on any stage in La Grande, so '.Miss Tucker has conceived the novel i scheme of building a special stage in ' the open, one on which horses, dogs, Indians, wagons, etc can be readily utilized Just the same, as on the ground. Mr. Simpkins, the scenic artist will have full charge of the scenery and Mr. Hunt, stage manager, will super intend' the erection and equipping of the mammoth Btage and its settings. Tbe first production will be given 01 Thursday evening, July 28. The prl of f ("mission will remain the same ns row and as the ball park is only a rhort walk from the city it should e exi-edlngly popular. Refreshments of the light order will be served to the audience between acts. No llquj-ti-iy kind w'll be allowed n ' the giound and particular pains will be observed by Manager Baker to look ing after the comfort and safety of all cnnareu auu uimccvuiimuieu iuioo.
