Council man Fleming could not attend because of the critical illness of his wife. Councilman Orvis and Church are out of town and Councilman Krelger is ill at Hot Lake. Unless Mrs. Fleming improves to such an extent that Mr. Fleming can leave here for a time next Friday evening, there wll be no meeting until next Wednesday when ! Councilman Orvis will be home. Though work is piling up In the ad ministration offices, the council was unable to meet last evening, and ad journment was taken until Friday ev ening, but it is doubtful if the body can convene even then. Serious 111 esa on the part of councllmen and families of councllmen, and absence from the city of two members of that august body, is responsible for fail- "Facing the Music" is the play that made James J. Corbett famous as an actor his fame had already spread all over the world as the ex-heavy weight champion. This play as it will be seen at the Alrdome tonight will be more of a musical comedy than anything else as there will be several musical numbers during the action of the bill. There will be a band concert In front of the Airdome Sunday evening at 7:45 by the full La Grande band. Next Door to Post Office T I MUTILATES EMPLOYE UNCERTAIN WHERE THE REMAINS WILL BE INTERRED Switchman Coming Here From Seattle Meets Horrible Death Here. It is not known whether or not the mutilated remains of A. M. Johnson the switchman Instantly killed late yesterday afternoon, will be burled in La Grande or returned to Sea trie where the unfortunate man had many friends and relatives. The distracted widow of the young man, who only recently arrived from Seattle to join her husband, is desirous of returning the body to Seattle but undertakers claim it Is practically impossible, or leat not feasible. The local members of the switchman's union are look ing after the details of the funeral arrangements. Johnson was killed last evening at 6 o'clock while the switch engine was pushing a string of logging cars to the Palmer mill. Johnson and another man were riding on the leading car, when suddenly Johnson was seen by his companion to fall directly in front of the rapidly moving train. The other man on the car could not signal the engineer before several cars had passed over the body, cutting, smash ing and terribly mutilating it. The unfortunate man Is survived by a wife, of similar age, who naturallv enough, is a physical wreck today fol lowing the accident. Johnson came here last May from Seattle and has been employed by the 0. R. & N., since that time. SUMMONS. n The Circuit Court of The State of Oregon, For Union County. E. A.
