Grant Geddes, the prominent Baker City lumberman, passed through the city this morning on his way to Ba ker. He has been to Tacoma, "Seattle and Portland in the Interests of hid company. Attorney S. P. Wilson returned thh morning to his home in Athena, after visiting for few dayB with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wil ton, who now live on the Cavana liomestead. Mr. Wilson moved to Li Grande recently from the east. Editor E. B. Aldrich, at the head of the Pendleton East Oregonlan, passel through the city this city enroute to Wallowa lake, where he will Join the Wallowa county 0. A. C. association in a picnic, which has come to he an annual affair. Several Union county O. A. C. grads are planning on attend ing tomorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Van Duyne of Spo kane, are here to spend a week or two with Mr. Van Duyne's parents, Mr and Mrs. C. S. Van Duyne. The visitor! was formerly in the real estate busi ness in this city, but for the last three or four months has been living In Spokane where he has a promising business. Mrs. Clara E. Lyle, a well-known musician of this city, writes to Mrs. W. A. Worstell that on July 21 she sails from Montreal for Scotland to be gone a year. One of her side trips Vu be a pourney to Oberammergau to wtineBS the Passion play. She is accompanied by her sister, and they left Seattle a few days ago intending to go by rail to Montreal. This closes one of the most remarkable cases on army records. In 1903 Ganington served as captain in the Philippines. He was accused of misappropriating funds. He was presumed guilty until proven innocent. Carrington was convicted, and sentenced to prison. He appealed' to the United States Bupreme court which presumed him innocent until proved guilty. This reversed the low er court. On retrial Carrington was found innocent. - Sale on For New Town Site. State Comptroller Clark Williams today -placed on sale 44,000 four per cent canal improve ment bonds. At the summer meeting of the Washington State Sheriff's Association, opening here today, several new laws will probably be recommended as desir able in Increasing the efficiency of sheriffs in dealing with criminals. A resolution favoring the establish ment of whipping posts for wife beat ers and assailants of women passed upon favorably at the last session, will likely again meet the approval of the sheriffs. The sheriffs also favor the rigid enforcement of a state cur few law. millions of gold are represented by the delegates to the annual conven tion of the New York States Bankers' Association, which opened today at the O-Te-Sa-Ga hotel on Otsega Lake.
