London. July 6. With a series o! revelries on a magnificent scale, the city of Bournemouth will this week celebrate Us centenary, the celebra tion commencing today. The citizens have put up guarantee fund of $130,000 for the entertainment of visitors, and the greatest event will be an aviation meeting the first In- ternatlonal flying machine held In the British Isles, with a prize fund of not less than $40,000. There Is a prize val ue of $12,500 for the first flight acroBB the channel round the Needles of the Isle of Wight and back to Bourne mouth. Prominent French aviators will compete. 4 , Bournemouth discovered quite re cently that she had a natural aero drome or flying circus In her imme diate vicinity, and she Is making val uable use of this acquisition. The first house Bournemouth was erected In 1810, and certainly as things In this country go, Bourne mouth has made great strides In her 100 years. So recent as 1865 the popu lated was 1.400. Now It Is 70,000. It is a two hours' run from London. The Bournemouth fetes will Include besides the aviation, motor car carni vals, competitions, gymkhanas, naval and military tournaments, a "Young England" day; and Madame Melba. Finding Hlggens Gibson, aged eighteen, hiding under his wife's bed, John Pltcock, chief clerk at the penitentiary, stabb ed the youth twenty-seven " times, killing him. and then took a shot at his wife. He surrendered to,the au thorities but the coroner's jury exon erated hlin on the unwritten law principle. Pltcock was told that Gib Ron was at his house, and he slipped from flic prison to lit home.
