be reversed. Matters of judgment
alone and not points of law are hard
to meddle wltn and declaring a long
hit a fair hit or a foul Is purely a mat
ter of Judgment on the part of the
umpire when there Is any room for

Half Mile Record May be Splintered

It is belived that Peare will be In
shape to break the existing half mile
record next Monday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock when he will buck against the
northwest record, which Is but one
fifth cf a second faster than the time
he already holds. The course on which
he will run Is not as good as It was
believed it would be, but for all that
he is going to make an attempt to
lower the time. ;

permit, record breaking time in the
fifty yard dash, . but even as the

lent chance of tying the northwest

Two Men In E. F. M. 50, Are Taking
Long. Land Journey
Jeff Kingsbury and W. Patrick ar
rived in the city this afternoon In an
E. M. F. 30 automobile on their way
fforo Asotin, Wash., to Bols), Idaho.
They came from Walla Walla, along
the old toll road, through Elgin and
Into La Grande. They report the
roads In good condition and find the
travel pleasant.
Mr. Kingsbury, is an old settler of
this city, having lived here about 30
or 40 years ago. It has been many
years since he was over the roads
but he still remembers very turn.
He Is spending the afternoon in call
ing on several of the old timers here.

besides and I remonstrate:
