There Is a song that is as old as Mt Emily almost entitled "Count your Blessings," and Its verses give good advice. Not only does that ad vice apply to most seviiuua, Lut I of especial lmportar.ee to La Grande and vicinity.. You walk down the street and some man will say, "Just wait until we get the Hill railroad through here and tbjBn we will grow." Another party may say, "we need an electric line through the valley and then , devel opment, will begin." ' ' , . With such men as make these re marks all the railroads of Christen dom would help. They are dead ones and there is no kind of dynamite that will ever awaken them. AH they can do is to pine for something they feel uncertain about. Listen to this: La Grande has more . things to be thankful for than any town of the northwest. We always need railroads, to be sure, but we have got more actual resources than any of the other towns then (Why not begin work with ! what we have and attempt to build a city? . Why not take an Invoice of the great Institutions here and see where you are at. , ' "'i'. ' , Look at the magnlfVent Palmer mill. Large pay rolls In ever; depart ment, as complete a manufacturing establishment as can be found west ot the Rocky mountains and each day It turns the crude timber of Union and Wallowa counties Into money the greater part of this Is spent in and around this) city. Up the canyon a little ways is an other big lumbering institution the Grande Ronde , Lumber company which is of large commercial Import ance to this city. Then there is the sugar factory, 'as magnificent and as complete a sugar refinery as can be found.- This Is an enterprise that cir culates big money In La Grande and vlcinty during the course of a year, Besides these are creameries. Iron foundry, brick and tile plant and ma ny other institutions. ' Tak an Invoice or what Is already here, you man who thinks the town . must wait for. another railroad. And after you have taken that In voice, don't Bit down t6 a game of polobut resolve In your own mind that you will do something in the world; that you will add something to La Grande's splendid output and be counted among her producers Instead of among her loaners of which class she has entirely too many. Don't wait for something to turn up, but go out and dig. If you can't prosper in a, city where 1150,000 Is turned loose every month, where In the 'mischief do you expect to find a place that will suit youT THE PAY OF HOSPITAL TREAT. . 3TETT : Hospitals are a direct blessing to every community.
