your Blessings," and Its verses give
good advice. Not only does that ad
vice apply to most seviiuua, Lut I

You walk down the street and some
man will say, "Just wait until we get
the Hill railroad through here and
tbjBn we will grow." Another party
may say, "we need an electric line
through the valley and then , devel
opment, will begin." ' ' , .
With such men as make these re
marks all the railroads of Christen
dom would help. They are dead ones
and there is no kind of dynamite that
will ever awaken them. AH they can
do is to pine for something they feel
uncertain about.
Listen to this:
La Grande has more . things to be
thankful for than any town of the
northwest.
We always need railroads, to be
sure, but we have got more actual
resources than any of the other towns
then (Why not begin work with ! what
we have and attempt to build a city?

which is of large commercial Import
ance to this city. Then there is the
sugar factory, 'as magnificent and as
complete a sugar refinery as can be
found.- This Is an enterprise that cir
culates big money In La Grande and
vlcinty during the course of a year,
Besides these are creameries. Iron
foundry, brick and tile plant and ma
ny other institutions. '

And after you have taken that In

that you will do something in the
world; that you will add something to
La Grande's splendid output and be
counted among her producers Instead

Don't wait for something to turn
up, but go out and dig.

Common Council of the City of La
Grande. Oregon, on the 9th day of
Feb., 1910, creating Improvement' Dis
trict No. 17 and designating Jefferson
Avenue, as such district, and in pur
suance of a resolution adopted by said
Common Council on the 17th day of
June, 1910, whereby said Council de
termined and declared its intention
to improve all that portion of Jeffer
son Ave, In said Improvement district
as hereinafter described, by building i
cement sidewalk 13 feet wide, the
Councit will, ten days after the service

property, affected and benefited by j
such Improvement, order that said
above described improvement be
made; that the boundaries of said dis
trict to be so Improved are as follows:
