Memorial to Kinir Edward.
At the request of some of the .for
mer subjects of King Edward, a me
morial service on tfce day of his fu
neral will be held 'in St. Peter's
church. All resident of British and
Canadian affiliation are especially re
quested to attend. Further particu
lars will be announced later.
Little Folks Entertained. v ,
The girls of the Alpha Theat class
of the Presbyterian church were ve
ry delightfully entertained at a Lilli
putian party given by the Lambda
Phi Alpha at the home of Harley
Richardson. The early part of the
evening was spent In playing games.
A dainty luncheon was served at a
Proper hour. Dishes used for this
event were of the smallest Blze ob
tainable and the tables were but two
feet high. Small' chairs also' were
used, carrying out the , Lilliputian
scheme. Mlnitur form marked the
entire menu and in fact everything
sparkled so much of the Lilliputians
that 'one easily imagined he was one
of them and called to mind the story
of Gulliver. .' v
The. trial' of Jeff , Scriber, who Is
charged with forgeries and irregu
larities while conducting a bank at
La Grande, which begins Monday In
Portland, is taking a large number
of La Grande citizens to the metropo

The second big steam shovel to be
used by Twohy Brothers In rebuild

and was taken to the scene of activi
ty, says a Pendleton paper. - One of
the big dirt digging machines has
. been engaged for several days . in
the task of changing the channel of
the river, just below the Pilot Rock
Junction. '. ; ,
Still another machine ia due to
arrive In a day or two. That is used
by the (government- in constructing
the big reservoir and 1 dam ; on the
Umatilla project. The Twohy Bro
thers have purchased the entire equip
ment of the government with tne
exception of -the steam shovel, and
and It is now being rushed to this
point The equipment consists of
the .steam shovel and the construc
tion .trains. Other dump cars and
dinky i engines , are arriving almost
daily from the east and the work is
getting Into full swing.
In the absence of any regular tel
ephone connections with Pendleton
from that section of the country,
Twohy Brpthers have erected a line
of their own which is now in opera.

fact that their farms are few and far

shovel which arrived last is a
70 ton Bucyrus; one of, the largest
made. The one already at work Is
