Grande are breathing easier because
the congestion that bag obtained for
several . weeks is now in a measure
relieved.1 The house track for pas

but the ground has been leveled all
around the depot and it is possible to
get about with much more ease. This
will be a relief to the baggage .de
partment for it was handicapped in

Popular Young' People Wed.
v This afternoon at 3 o'clock at the
home of Rev.' Ford Ellis, Mr. ; Earf
Hughes and Miss Barbara Snodgrass
were united in marriage. . The cere
mony was plain and only a few near
friends were present The groom is
a son of William Hughes and wife,
piomlnent citizens of the valley and
the bride Is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Snodgrass, one of the best
known families of Union county. He
is employed in the 0. R. & N, com
missary department and is among
the best young mqn , r the communi
ty. '.The happy couple leaves this ev
ening for Boise where they will spend
a few days after which they will be
at home to their many friends in a
cottage near the mill.
La Grande's Band Is AssureaV,
At ' a meeting last evening ' in the
city hall the La Grande Concert Band
made final arragements to continue
the organization thls( summer and en
gaged ttie services of Profc Selak as
leader and director. ' Heavy practice
will begin at once and for all gala
occasions the band will be able to
turn out at least twenty pieces and
render a high grade of music. This
is gratifying to most 'of the people
here for there was ear that the band
might not be continued this summer.
Without a band, a, city the slzeof
La Grande is unprepared to take
charge of such events as the Chau
tauqua and other 'celebrations-, that
have been planned, to say nothing of
the summer concerts which so iriany
of the ' rank and file ! of the people
so thoroughly enjoy.
