Bank and Trust company of Portland, and will take up his new duties May 5. Mr. Steel spent today at the bank Fj becoming familiar with the dutiee'of his , new position. Tomorrow he ' will go to Salem and clear his desk ready to turn the state office ovei to his successor. At the same time he will trun in his resignation to the state board of bank commissioners, con sisting of the governor, state' treasur er and secretary of state. . Governor Benson said today that he had not been officially notified of Mr. -Steel's resignation, and that "un til tne resignation nau oen ietclwl he could not discuss the appointment of a succeor. . "t ' It !is known, however, that some time ago, when Mr. Steel was consid ering resigning tha't Mr.' Wright-was discussed as a probable appointee. From reliable in formation it "is now known that Mr. Wright 'will be ap pointed "as Mr. Steel's successor. Mr. Wright has been cashier of the First National Bank, of Union for many years, and only recently resigned. .Mr Whlght i3 a counsin of County Clerk Ed Wright and he has a large acquaintance here . who will be .de lighted to bear ot - his .appointment.
