It may interest the people of Union and vicinity to know that the prop osition to construct a railroad from Walla Walla to Union appears yet to be under consideration and that Nor thern Pacific engineers are' In Walla Walla, wan me uojoti tu w . eating the line through the "Wenaha Forest Reserve. Touching upon this matter the Spokesman-Review of the 5th, contains the following from Wal la Walla, under date of March 4th. That a railroad is being planned from Union to Walla Walla through the Wenaha forest reserve, which will reduce the distance covered by the 0. R. & N. by many miles, was confirmed today by the arrival of Northern Pacific engineers, who said they came to assist Engineer F. C. Goodrich, who is now in' the moun tains. Goodrich represents a con struction company from Boston, and came here with C. E. Alexander, en gineer of the Central Railroad of Ore gon, a 14-mlle line leading from Un ion, Oregon to Cove, Oregon. It Is this road which will build to Walla Walla. It has made arrangements to enter the city over the branch track of' the Northern Pacific. ' E. A. Rowland, of Ortonville, Minn, is at the head of the engineers, and their presence indicates that the N, p. is behind the move. Goodrich is still in the mountains with a forest ranger as a guide, and Is not expect ed out for more than a week yet. The new road, which the Central Railroad of Oregon has had surveyed for some time, will be given a short cut through Walla Walla to Spokane for through traffic from the East via Cheyenne or Ogden.
