Barnes at North Powder and with her siBter, Mrs A. R. Hunter, at Island City, expectes to leave In the morning for her home at Seattle. Asa B. Thompson, of Echo, passed through Pendleton this morning on one of the delayed trains on his way home from a trip to Mexico., He was held up at Glenns Ferry for G2 hours on account of the washouts. Mrs. Spencer will accompa ny the body to Zimmerman Minneso ta, where the funeral will take place and' Mr. Spencer will return to La Grande. . Mr. and Mrs. Jemlson who have been vlBitlng with their daughtef. Mrs. Walter Spencer of this city, left this morning for Zlmmeman, Minn., to attend the funeral of their son who was killed In the land slide at ' Wellington the latter part of the : 'week.' . '" . ' Miss Edna Barton of Baker City, who has been visiting for the past several weeks with Mr, and Mrs. L. P. Dunn, left Saturday evening for Portland where she will visit for a few days before returning to her home. Mrs. H. S. Slangle, of Milton, wife . of the presiding elder for this district of the M. E. Church South, passed through Pendleton last evening on her way to Nashville., Tenn., as a . delegate to the annual convention of the Woman's Home Missionary So ciety. She was accompanied by her two daughters, Lois and Ruth, and they will visit with relatives in Ar kansas enroute to Tennessee. Next month they will , be Joined by Mr. Slangle and they will then proceed to Ashvllle, North Carolina, to at tend the general " conference of the church. Snook has returned form a visit to his old home In Missouri. He brought back two families with hitn, one being that o? his father, and the other the family of Charles Blain. who has cone to Eugene but will re turn in a weelt's tlm eto locate. Peter O'Sulivan is here from Pen dleton attending court. The many friends of the family in La Grande will be pleased to learn that Mrs. O'Sulllvan'B health has greatly im proved during the past few months. J. B. FisheT has been confined to his room for the past two weeks but Is able to get down into the main lobby of the Sommer hotel. It will be several day before he will ac cept any foot race challenges. . Rev. Ford Ellis closed hra first year's work with 'the Central Chuch of Christ yesterday. He has been called to continue another year. The official board of the church meets this evening to transact important business. Reports of last year's work are to be given. Also plans will be laid for the future work o the church. . Salem, Ore., March 7.-The rail road Commission were today notified the Harrlman lines have decided to build the Stanfteld-Coyote cutoff. The new line will leave the present main line at Coyote, passing though Walla Walla to Stanfleld, Wash.
