check for $128.50, purporting to be
signed by W. A' Dorrance. drawn

of T. J. Jones.. The check waa first
presented by Nelson to the Wallowa
State Bank In this city Saturday af
ternoon, but Cashier W. R. Holmes
refused payment aa he believed the
signature . was not genuine. Nelson

clothing, shoes, etc, receding aa his
change $50.25 in cash' and the R. S
& Z'a. check for $35. Mr. Steele
found out the auspicious nature

confirmed the forgery Nelson had

Mr.-Steele and Marshal Hug went
to .Joseph on the delayed train and

the money were recovered. Nelson

will consult specialists and deter

physicians decide it Is necessary he
will not return to Baker City until
he Is well. Ever since Judge Nichols
had a long siege with typhoid fever
his healh ' has been tmpared and of
late he has been losing flesh rapidly.
While In the east he will visit his
old home In, Indiana. The many
friends of the Judge will be anxious
to know that he has accomplished
the purpose of his visit, that of re
gaining his former physical condi

snow slide that occurred this fore
noon In the Cornucopia mountain
range, Robert Wilson one of the old

ers of this camp met death and is

the atmosphere.

mate the amount of damage done to
property.
