Last evening at the high school
building the two debating teams that
are to debate with Baker City both
at Baker City and here tomorrow ev
ening, met la a practice debate be
fore about a dozen local critics who
pronounced both teams as haying
made excellent preparation. The de
bate is on 'The Commission form of
Government.", The negative team.. Is
to go to Baker ; City to debate with
their affirmative team while Baker
City's negative team " will come here
and will debate ' at the PreBbyterlaa
church tomorrow.,evenlng. ' The price
of admission will be 25 cents and it
is hoped that a large crowd will come
out and hear-the boys. : t

Soring always finds a town with
more or less refuse accumulated on
the streets and alleys and In the
yards. This refuse matter is always
an eyesore to the general public ana
especially to visitors, on whom we
are continually " trying to make a
good Impression of our little city with
the Idea of getting new people suffl
clently Interested to make this their
home.
It is suggested by some one who
has seen the great benefit derived,
that a certain day in the near future
be designated as cleanup day all over
the city. On this day every one gets
busy In and around his own yard or
business place, cleaning up the yard,
straightening up the wood pile, re
pairing the walks, placing the refuse
In barrels or boxes which are placed
at the rear of the residences or bus
iness houses where they can easily
be reached by wagons, furnished by
the city council. These wagons then
remove the rubbish collected, to some
dump, with no expense to the lndl
vldual other than a little time and
rosslbly a few blisters.

ment a day of this kind will make In
a city, not only In looks but In a ean
