Ht M. St Cyr was released from
the Idaho state prison at Boise after
serving a ten year sentence for mur
der, is well known jln Pendleton.
He was an engineer on the 0. R. &
N. for a number of years and made
this clty his headquarters, having
rooms In the East Oregonlan build
ing. He will be remembered as the
artist engineer and to all old rail
road men he Is known as "Halroil
Pete." While on this . division he
made seme of the most remarkable
runs evr made by an engineer, one
of them being the time he Jumped on
an engine at Meacham and raced
down the mountain to overtake a
train which had been given wrong
orders and was speeding to certain
destruction. He Is also remembered
as the engineer, who no matter what
engine he had would Mow the whistle
In such a manner that all railroaders
who heard It could tell who was at
the throttle and In a manner that
could not he Imitated by anyone else.
