"I hold a warrant for A. N. Jones,
alias S. A. Brandford, alias C. A.
Smith, wanted In this county on the
charge of obtaining money under false
pretenses: who on ' last Saturday
night passed a bad check on one of
our merchants.
Age 25 to 30 years, height 5 feet
7 or 8; weight 150 pounds; smooth
shaven; dary brown hair, and Is quite
heavy and curls at ends; rather large
eyes. Wore a dark , suit of cheap
material; also a dark heavy cap,
showing considerable wear. I , ' ,
I think A. E. Jones is none other
than S. A. Bradfleld who on June
5th 'last year, passed three bad
checks here and later on June 12th
passed a number of it wv.'

his size, etc. While here he tajked

Enterprise Commercial Club anxious
to emulate La Grande
. At a largely attended and very en
thuiastic meeting of the commercial
club and citizens eenerallv. held In
the court lfciuse, Monday night, the
proposal of the fair commission that
the county fair be held next fall in
Enterprise was unanimously agreed
to, and the club will make arrange
ments for the necessary expenses to
hold the largest and best fair ever
held In Wallowa County.
The club also elected a new set of
officers, changed the by-laws In sev
eral particulars, and received over 20
new members."
The club la to be made represen
tative of the city and vicinity by a
widening out on popular lines. Ev
ery citizen is invited to become a
member and help, however little, in
the good work of boosting the best
town In Eastern Oregon.
The newofflcers chosen are ,S. L.
Burnaugh, president; L. B. Payne,
vice-president; S. F. Pace, treasurer;
B. B. Boyd, C. T. Hockett, Fred S.
Ashley, C. S. Bradley and A. F. Poley
directors. The board ' of directors
will select to secretary. The bylaws
were changed so that members will
contribute an optional amount over
a minimum, monthly for a year to
help In the work of publicity and
other work. Regular meetlnga of the
club will be held on the second Mon
day night of each month. News-

BROTHER DIES
C S. fan Durn receives word of hi
brother's death near Spokane.
C. S. Van Duyn received word late
last evening that his brother J. M.
Van Duyn of St Joe, a small town
near Spokane, Washington, died at
Spokane yesterday from the effects
of an operation. Mr. Van Duyn ex
pects to leave this evening for Port
land, where It is thought the funeral
services will be held.
The best sleighing of the winter
prevails at present, however, the nov
elty-has worn away to a great ex
tent and there are not a great many
sleighs In evidence today.
