Palmer left this morning for Telocaset on a few days business vis it Mrs. Frank, Jackson was callei to Union yesterday by the serious ill ness of her mother at Union. J. A. King, the local cigar maker, went to Hot Lake this morning fot a' short visit Frank Harris the well known local business man, left this morning for a brief visit to Elgin. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cochran went to Allcel this morning to visit friends and relatives. J. E. Cherry of Milton spent last evening In this city and went to Wallowa this morning. Walter Spencer, timber cruiser for the Palmer Lumber Company, left this morning for the MInam. . Mrs. W. H. Hawley of Sumpter spent last evening in this city and left for TroblPF thl imwnlnr h T"! Tlslt her patients. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Strong, formerly of the Scenic will leave today for Boise where they will Join a new stock company after closing at the Scenic. Attorney A. B. Conway of Enterprise who was In the city yesterday trying out a land case left this morning for Bi'ker City. , :l. B. Davidhauser of Joseph, left this morning for Alicel where he will act in the capacity of auctioneer in the O. W. Ruckman sale today. H. 0. Alkine who has been brr for about six weeks on account of the fatal Illness of his brother, J. H. Alkine, expects to leave tonight for his home in Gunnison, Colo . . Dr. R. J. Ruckman of Walla Walla . came over yesterday and left this morning for Alicel where he will visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ruckman. ! F. A. Reavis, cashier of the Enter prise bank, left this morning after a .week in this city with his wife who has been taking treatment In the Grande Ronde Hospital. Mrs. Reavis expects to be able to return to her home by Saturday. W. H. Van Duyn, C. S. Van Duyn and Mr. Fueher returned last evening from a three days trip to Starkey where they report having met some ,. cooling breezes .The snow, lays fully 12 Inches deep and Ice froze In one night hard enough to support a team of horses. - APPLE SHOW PRESENTS KNOTTY V AWARD PROBLEM. Various Districts Conditions Differ so As to Worry the Judges. Spokane, Nov. 17. The National Apple Show Judges are having con siderable difficulty In Judging the Washington and Oregon fruit that has been grown In the various dis tricts because the fruit from the high er altitudes and irrigated land is more uniform In size and better pa-A ed but will not compare with the r'ch color of the apples that have been gTown In lower altitudes and non ir rifct'ed districts. The Judging began today. There was a large attendance fwic today. The show Is not national, altoget her few exhibits are here from outside of Bitieh Columbia. Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Mont-xao.
