Miss Anna Rollins, who was in the hospital here for some time but was removed to Baker City later, is said to be seriously ill and there is some doubt as to her recovery. She has several relatives here. H. O. Walker, a well-known local carpenter, left this morning for Aliel where he Is engaged In building an addition to the residence of James Moss. W. F. Some time ago Mr. and Mrs. Ackles moved to Portland on account of MrV AckleS health.' and since they have taken up their abode there he has improved rapidly. Mrs. Ackles will return as soon as she completes her business here. A cargo of Greeks arrived today to be used in the construction of the side trick construction now going on. The steam shovels are now at Perry where work la to start immediately. Bret Ilanlina; Near End; Unless it rains in the meantime, the last of the beets will be hauled to the factory Next Thursday. The factory however, .will continue to operate for ten days yet Break In Dam. A break in the dam at Perry has caused a shutdown of the Perry mill which will last about four days. Eh Sapplngton cf Van couver, Clark county, Washington, re turned home this morning with a prls oner arrested here Saturday afternoon by Sheriff Childers. The prisoner's name is E. Z. Marquest Marquest has been in this vicinity for a bout two months working for the Sugar Company on their farm near Hot Lake. The crime charged against him ; 2c4;;uu. onerta Childers got the message that he was wanted about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon and by 5 o'clock the man was under arrest. Marquest declares his innocence. He maintains that he has been sending his wife money right aolng. He says that ne has a wife and three children all of which he is fond of and that he is doing all in his power td care for them. The crime charged to his account Is a serious one carrying with It a penitentiary sentence. In Oregon the offense would come under the head of non-support and would be punishaole by a Jail sentence. Adding by forgery 810 to his wages for the past two weeks, George Brown a fireman for the A. B. C. Laundry, left for parts unknown last night. Brown has been in the city for the past two weeks.
