S3 u 53 n in 8 n -J u n S3 I d d ; Ill ' , M , SpeakingAbout Correct IDress When It comes to a question of correct apparel, yon will find us particularly able to supply the very latest fashions. . ' If yon want to be In style this fall, you must have certain lines to your garments, which all good dresBers will admire. You will find ADLER'S 1 r "K5S COLLEGIAN CLOTHES Which we feature, to be very ' deccldedly the most artistic production of this present season. Let us show you a few of the new conceptions In aults and overcoats. ASH BROTHERS THE fiOUSE OF GOOD CLOTHES Elfi An early November freshet is one of the usual things that owners of log booms and cultivators of bottom land in Western Oregon and Washington encounter now and then to their Iobb. The heavy rains of the iant flvw dv have Sent many of the smaller Btreams tributary to the Columbia, Grays Har bor and Puget Sound out of their banks, working the disaster in the lines mentioned. Unlike the loss sus tained from a September or October storm to a delayed grain harvest, the November loss in grain and logs is not the fault of those who sustain it. Up to the breaking of the storm and the ensuing freshet,, the water in the icgping streams were not high dnou'gh to float the log booms to the mills. Hence the exposed condition of the logs. As to the late potatoes and, other root crops, they had not yet come to maturity; ' hence ' were not ready for gathering. The losses suffered while not heavy enough to affect the general prosperity of the sections visited, are yet heavy in individual cases. As to the inconvenience caused by washing out or softening of the roads the case is different. It will continue in very many cases throughout the winter and will furnish the best of all arguments for substantially con structed hlirhwava Th'o ' or an old one: it la niimtrntnri hv strain- lng horses, pulling heavy wagons with light loads over roads that would be impassible but for the necessity of using them occasIonally hy slack trade in village stores, slim attendance upon rural churches and schools and farmhouse isolation that becomes ex ceedingly dreary and monotonous be fore the winter is over. It is doubtful indeed, whether any argument would oo emphasize the value of good roads, as does the freshet, coming before the fall hauling of 'produce is fairly be gun.
