Gwpaey WAGE WAR OIIMMS BIG BATCH OF TRAPS SENT OUT TO WALLOWA TODAY. Forest Rangers hate a lot of Tools With Which to kill Predatory tvv-'.'K Be its. Armed with about 50 bear traps for the , use of the forest rangers on the Wallowa reserve in the campaign that is to be waged this winter against the predatory beasts. Superintendent Har ry W. Harris of the Wallowa Forest and Grazing association, with Assist ant Charles Black, came. down from Baker City last night after attending a meeting of the Wool Growers aesocia- j tlon of Union and Baker counties. They spent the night in this city and left this morning for Wallowa. According to the statement of Mr. Black, $15,000 worth of sheep were killed by coyotes in the Wallowa re- serve last season. An effort la now to oe maae to ria me range or tnese pests. An assistant hunter is to be put on tne reserve in the Powder val ley soon, as the winter months 1 are considered the most effective season to hunt coyotes. Tnese hunters are allowed to sell the hides but are not allowed to collect the scalp bounty. ..Another of the Important problem considered by the wool growers of the association in their meeting ' At Baker , was . the question of cutting down the number of sheep now being grazed, for the larger flock masters. This Is for the purpose of allowing a larger number of worthy men to get the use of the forest reserve. The cut will probably be from 8 to 15 per cent o fthe present number. It is the deBire of the government officials to favor as much as possible to favor the appli cation of homebuilders coming into the country by allowing them to herd o nthe national forest reserve. ,' ' BEETS ARE RAIXS OJiLY RETARD AXD DO 0T DAMAGE IS OPIMOX. .
