The Christian Endeavor Society of
the Presbyterian church held a busi
ness meeting and a social last even
ing at the home of Mrs. A. T. Hill.
During the evening's pleasures a short
business session was held in which
reports from . the committees were
heard and the following officers for
the year were choeen: W. F. Lao
drum, resident; Wayne Pickler, ; vice
president; Miss Oma Richardson, sec
retary and .George Rogers, treasurer.
Then the social enjoyment was . re
newed and lasted, until a late hour
when dellciods refreshments were

One of the most pleasant events-of
the week was the informal gathering
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. L.
Brenholts Wednesday evening in ho
nor of Mr. Roger Ferguson. The
evening was rendered :. especially
pleasant by the presence of Mr. Fer
guson's mother, who has come from
Iowa to visit her son. A number of
young people were present.

Liquor prosecutions are growing
more and more exciting. This morn
ing complaint was filed in the Justice
court against Mamie Smith of the
"red light" district, . charging her
with stilling one gill and a drink of
intoxicating liquor to Edward Daren
in violation of the local option law.
The charge states that the liquor
was sold on the 3rd of October. The
complaining witness Is Constable t. W
Faulk. ;.
. The . defendant was arraigned this
morning before Justice of the Peace
A. C. Williams but she waived examin
atlon and ber case will go over to the
grand Jury.
