to collect statistics for the next cen
sus of manufactures, min and quar
ries. As far as possible it is desired
to obtain persons who have college or
u&irersity coarse in statistics or
economics, or persons who have . had
experience in the aecooatins; depart
ment of manufacturing or other busi
ness tstablishments.
Applications will b accepted from
women, hot the opportunity for their
appointment is slight. Chief special
agents win receire to $. a
day, while assistants will receive from
13 to fl a day. The chief special
agents win t employed from six to
tfxteen months and the assistants
from 3 to 6 raoaths. There wilt be no
geographic! apportionments of the
appointments as sach but as far as
possible appointees will be assigned
to duty in the totalities in which they
reside.
In sparsely settled districts of the
weal the n amber of employes , per
rapita will be greater than in the
more densely populated localities.

vance agents of the Second Coming of
Christ" arrUe'd in Pendleton this

hold a short series of meetings oo the
streets of this city, says the East
OregoDlaa. The first will be held this
erening about 7 or 7:30. The two
men are simply known as Waltar and
Joseph and are representatives of the
, famous Israelite colony of Benton
. Harbor, Michigan.
While their direct object in coming
to Pendleton is to spread the tidings
of great Joy. incidentally they are
taking Mibscriptiofis for an eight page
newspaper which is, printed and pub
lished by this queer sett on the
grounds of the associate worshipers
where they hate & acres of land and
everal fine buildings.
Like the two disciples in this city

that by so doing that they are but
simply rarylng out or living up to the
commands of the Bible In this as In
every other respect. Photographs they
are showing not only tndcate that
the colony is happy and contented but
prosperous. Everything is owned In
common.. The buildings are construct
ed of stone, modern in their architec
ture and built entirely by the mem
bers of the colony. The grounds are
beautifully laid out with parks and
beauty spots and a miniature railway
traverses the 800 acres. There are
also five brass bands in the colony.
