Although the chorus contest may not materialize on account of the out side choruses falling to enter. La Grande singers are working loyally and will boost the program with two choruses. The L. D. S. taber nacle choir under Director James Hood, Is practicing regularly and will sing the contest number on Thurs day evening fo rthe assistance their valuable services will be to the en tertainment committee. The Mormon singers of this city were especially anxious to meet the musicians from Baker, but that aggregation would not come through with their chorus. Director Hood and the cScers of the well organized choir are planning a series of concerts to be given In this section of the state this winter. They will sing two or three times In La Grande and appear In each of the towns of the country and perhaps en ter Wallowa and Baker counties. These concerts are to be given for the benefit of the training to the sing ers and the cultivation of the musical taste of the people. Leaders in both musical circles in La Grande feel that there Is a splen did opportunity for the organization of a class choral society in La Grande this winter. La Grande has the pop ulation, the singers, the leaders, and the wealth to support a great musical organization and it is thought that if the proper steps are taken all the musical elements of the city may be united into one society for operatic work.
