The expenditure of the missing five millions in Oregon would cret.ta fifty in land values. There Is no doubt that the assess ment of real estate In Portland are away below the figures for which is is selling. One piece of property sold few days ago for half a million anl was assessed for $77,350. Another that was offered for a quarter of a million to the city is listed at less than $84,000 by the assessor. There are probably hundreds of suih instances. It would not take many to equal the entire as sessed value of any one of several counties in Oregon. Stanfield is the new Irrigation town In Umatilla county. Over a mile of con crete sidewalk has been laid, merch ants are doing business in tents wail ing the completion of concrete build ings, over 100 men are employed in the town proper and about 75 on the stor age reservoir dam.
