The Capital News says: , Bitter is the local option war which is now being waged in Boise and At, county and those who are talcing s neutral ground to watch with Interest the boiling and sporting of the steam ing broth in the political pot claim that the evaporation Is so great It will be nothing short of a marvel that will prevent the vaporizing process to be come complete. Two weeks ago the campaign was decldely mild. Seven days afterwards both prohibitionists and anti-prohibitionists awoke from the trance and bestirred themselves. The last two days have seen activity and today there was excitement for the exaggerated claims that were be iny made on all side were contra dicted and re-contradicted until even the neutral standpatter is willing to admit that he does not .know where he "is at" and the bitter denouncers of both sides are even worse off. Dope Oieratr Both Wajs. The very latest so-called "dope" which floats from the headquarters of the "wet" leaders Is to the effect that the 1? precincts of Boise will be car ried by approximately 100 votes. enough to offset the big "diy' vow from the remaining county predncH and ke-p the county steady and in the "dry" eolnvun. It is learned, however, that the real leaders behind the anti prohibition fight are not so sure about the 1000 majority. They believe that if "fOO votes are secured the county re turns can be offset. There are other who charge that they will have a "wet" majority of over 1300 in Boi and that easily. Little credence 13 given to the last claim owing to ib fact that it is believed almost impos sible to stir up that number of vote3 for a majority. In fact the claims operate both way3. The local option leaders are 'distributing literature which explains what temperance and prohibition has done in "dry" towns towards increasing the vilue of prop erty, the earnings of the merchant. cutting down of taxes and raising the moral Htandard of the community and so on. On the other hand the litera ture that is sent out by the antl-pr.-hibitionlsts explains that. local option and prohibition has killed more towns in a business way than it ha3 done good; that taxes have been raised in every instance; that merchants have lost money and are in debt; that the cities wherein local option has won out have gradually dropped back and lost in population and that there has been more drunkenness than ever be fore.
