Gilford Meredith, son of Rev. B. F.
Meredith, who a few years ago was
pastor at the M. E. church here, but
at present is at Vale, was seriously
burned near Atlantic City some few
days ago by the explosion of a gaso
line yacht Gilford and hia grand-
lather were riding with the mate of
the boat, neither, paying any atten
tion to the boat's progress. Suddenly
an explosion r6ut the air, throwing
the mate out of the bot, and collap
sing the roof of the cabin on Gilford.
With splendid presence of mind the
mate returned to the boat and remov
ed the boy before the Burns were fa
tal.
.f
The aged man was less exposed to
Immediate danger.
Immediately after a complete res
cue was effected, the boat was rent
into by a second explosion.
Mrs. Meredith, who was out of New
York City at the time, beard of it by
meagre wire reports, and was of
course, in mortal agony until she
learned the exact extent of the' burns.
According to advices received by
Mr. Meredith at Vale, his son is badly
burned about the head and face, but
apparently is under 'no immediate
danger of fatal outcome.
