T FTT.T, TViicuHot. The farmers of the surrounding neighborhood ' are wearing broad smiles these days, and well they may. While crop failures are unknown in Powder valley, some seasons are better than others, and with one pf the best being brought out of what not many weeks ago was feared by some would be one of the poorest, it is enough to make the sturdy "tiller of the soil have pleasant dreams of big bank accounts and automobiles. With a good yield of all kinds of grain and hay, and a quality better than usual, the prices are high enough to make the returns greater than have been for years. ' ' Why not smile? Haines Record. R. A. WEST, The Well Driller! , iiiihm , PILOTROOK ROAD Did The rumor is generally current in railroad circles that the Pilot Rock branch of the O. R. & X. will have its service curtailed owing to a lack of patronage, says . a Pendleton paper. The company now runs one train a day each way over the road except on Sunday. The train leaves Pen dleton in the- morning and returns from Pilot Rock in the afternoon. The road has developed a fine bit of new farming country along the line and it is growing rapidly and it is believed that until such a time as the development becomes more pro nounced that the line will only have trains every other day. The proposition .now Is to run a train to Pilot Rock from Pendleton and return on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and cut off the trains now running on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Firdays. It is said that the line has not paid interest on the investment since it has been in operatipn. C. 1. BLACK Real Estate and Insurance 111 DEPOT STREET S0MMERS BL'DG.
