THE DALLES, July 20. Activities
in the construction of the Deschutes
railroad are in evidence ( on every
hand.
Th construction of a switch track
will be commenced at once at the
point where the new road will join
the main line. Several engineers and
ptner men prominent in the construc
tion of the new road have been In
this city trying to secure offices but
up to this time have iurt located any.
Twony Brothers, who were large
contractors in the construction of the
North Bank railroad, hold a big con
tract in the Deschutes road construc
tion and are makir.g active prepara
tions for work, having established
headquarters at Grass Valley. '

ership of Gilbert Minthorn, one of the
best known young Indians on the
reservation, and with about 100 Indian
cowboys In the saddle the event prom
ises to be oue of the most picturesque

The object of the roundup is to en
able Montana hrose buyers to select
a trainload of the Indian horses. At
least 25 car loads are wanted by the
buyers and more will be taken if they
can be secured.

that of Curt Pless. the missing grain
broker of Bellingham, Washington, In
the belief of Coroner Ralph Folsom.
The cause for his changed opinion is
the receipt of a letter from Mrs. Pless
in which she gives a more detailed de
scription of the missing man than has
yet been received here.

the Riverside nurseries. Spokane. Mr.
Jones has reached this conclusion af
ter experiments covering several years
in his business.
In watering every 21 days Mr. Jones
applies one and a fourth gallons per
square foot, which averages about
one-seventeenth of a gallon a day.
This is considerably less than W. R.
lloy finds it necessary to use when wa
tering his lawn daily, as Mr. Roy ap
plies one-thirteenth of a gallon to the
square foot.
If the owner of a lawn were able to
make a success of Mr. Jones' plan he
would not only use lee3 water, but
would be troubled with watering his
grass only every three weeks.
