DEPOT STREET id ME BOUND OVER TO THE (lli(Ull I King Rowe was this morning bound over to appear before the circuit court on charges of assault and bat tery when Justice of the Pease Angus Stewart rendered a decision on the hearing held yesterday afternoon and evening when Rowe was on trial for assaulting Claire Crossen in the streets of La Grande a few weeks ago. The defense maintained that the terrible gash in Clau&sen's head was Inflicted by his falling on a sharp rock, but state witnesses, including, said in testimony that the gash was created by a weapon of some sort. The skull was laid bare and after the assault Crossen bled profusely at the mouth, ears and 'nose. Whoever or whatever did the act, came near end ing Crossen's career. Evidence was lacking ysterday, but on such as was produced, the court held the defend ant over to the district court. The act was committed on June 26, and after several days, Rowe was arrested in Payette charged with the assault. Rowe hopes to get bonds for J500 this evening but now is in the cus tody of the officers. He gained bondsmen last evening and was at liberty during the night, only to be Incarcerated when the final decision was given today.
