Deputy Sheriff George LIndgren is attending the K. of P.. grand lodge at Pendleton today.. Postmaster and Mrs. G. M. Richey are expected home from Portland early this week. Mr. and Mrs. Klbley who have been visiting In Salt Lake City for the past week returned home last night M. L. Carrier, of Centralla, Wash.,' who has been attending to business here for the past few days, returned to his home this morning. ailss Grace Do Mar at The Scenic This Week. Htrrry Ecclniiz, Uo painter, will leave tonight for Minnesota, in re sponse to a telegram stating that his mother was dying. Miss Fredia Sutfln .has returned from the valley where she has been visiting the Misses Lucile and Helen Pierce. Superintendent Reynolds, of the I. C S. air brake car, has arrived In La Grande to relieve W. F. Gilam, who has gone on the Short Line in Idaho. Mayor Gregg, of Wallowa, is here this afternoon en route to Portland, California, and thence to Ohio, where Mrs. Gregg is now visiting. They will return about two months hence. Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Heacock, re turned last evening 4.0 their home in Pendleton after a short visit with friends In La Grande. Mr. and Mrs. F, M. Byrklt returned to their home In Red Oak, Iowa, yes terday, after visiting relatives here for a considerable length of time. Mrs. C. S. Van .Duyn received word this , morning that her step-father, Judge T. W. Ayers, at Heppner, was very ill. William Hunter a real estate bro ker of Moscow, Idaho, Is In La Grande today looking after business inter ests and will vgo to Wallowa tomor row night. The lawn social that was prepared last Friday will be held this week at Mrs. William Herr's, 1906 Cedar street on Wednesday evening June 23rd. Everybody is Invited to attend. H. S. Allen for" 20 years school clerk at Portland Is In La Grande to day on business.,, He will visit rel atives at Summervllle before return ing home. . Word has been received here from Mrs. Hanna Rogers stating that she had arrived safely, at Santa Cruz. Calif., and that she was having a very delightful time. . Rev. W. II. Gibson and Mrs. Gib son who are delegates to the North ern Baptist convention in Portland, will leave on Thursday evening, and after the convention spend a few days in Seattle and also with friends in Puyallup and Aberdeen where Mr. Gibson was pastor several years ago. Band Concert Tonight The Pastime w crov. Billlo Baxter, the black faced comedian, also came in for hla share of the applause. PLENTY OF HELP Farmers Will be Able to Harvest Hay Without Shortage of Help. The demand for laborers in the hay fields of Union county is increasing every day, with the, same ratio of help. The farmers will be able to harvest their hay this year "without : 2 the usual shortage of hands. The ;4- wages in the hay fields are $1.50 to $2.00 and board per day. CJ.
