COX, City Recorder. J. D. McKennon, C. D. Huffman and F, E. Smith, appointed by the county court as fair commissioners, met this morning and elected officers for the coming year. J. D. McKennon will be president; F. L. Meyers, treasurer, and Fred M. Huffman, secretary. We are to haVe a real fair this fall, and if the Commercial club and the mer chants can arrange to take care of the stock the event will be held in the streets of La Grande. The laBt legislature amended the I act providing funds for holding a fair In this district, consisting of Union and Wallowa counties, and instead of $1,500, there1 will be available $2,000. Of this. amount Wallowa county will get $750 and Union $1,250. , If Wal lowa county should hold no fair, Un ion county commissioners may dis burse the entire amount. This Is ! money enough to provide for adequate and attractive premiums, and If the arrangements in regard to stock can be made, the fair next fall will be the most enjoyable event of the kind ever held in the1 county.
