here. next Sunday when the Clerks and
the Band BoyS cross bats at Lincoln
Park. The boys ,of both teams are
putting in all of their spare time
whipping themselves into shape and
the outlook for the fastest amateur
game of the season is very bright. The
proceeds of the game will go for the
benefit of the band and every public
spirited person who loves, the game
should be In' attendance to cheer their
favorite team to victory. Music will
be furnished by the band. Jay Van
Buren has consented to umpire the
game after securing the promise of
each member of the two teams that
no violence will be-committed. An
admission of 25c for adults and' 10c
for children will be charged. Grand
stand free. Game will be called at
2:30 sharp! Be a booster! Attend

egging. Jacobs arrived from Bakp-

Jacobs, who when arrested last even
ing , had with, him two pint bottles,
two half pints, and a quart of whis
key, besides some kind of drug in a
Llquodlclde. bottle.
This morning at an early hour Of
ficer Black went, to the man's room at
til Slue Mountain House and secured
Ms "grip. . It contained cooking uten
sils.' a sack of chlttim bark, a sack of
'emons, some coffee and a bottle of
earbolic acid.
Jacobs says that he came down from
Baker " City yesterday and brouEht
the whiskey with him for his own use.
He also says that he never sold nor
gave away any whiskey yesterday and
that he was weakening the stuff when
arrested. He says that he took two
drinks of his own whiskey yesterday
in one or the Joints on Jefferson av
enue and that he never had a drink
at any time with any of the men al
leged to have been drugged.
After Investigation of the evidence
which they could obtain against Jac
obs, and finding that It would not con
vict, the officers released him this af
ternoon.. Jacobs says that he has
lived In Wallowa county for 31 veara. !
