There' are two new 'organiza tions in this city and eouaty whose interests are mutual and should work in perfect harmony. Do work in har mony to a much greater extent than those who fiave not given the matter serious consideration realize. We refer to the Merchants Protective Association of this city and the Far mers Union. It Is to the natural in terest of the merchants to see that the farmer gets the highest nrirpa possible for bis produce and find mar kets for him. ' It is to the interest of the farmer to patronize and help build up the city which naturally Increases their home market Both . interests are now organized and should occas ionally hold Joint meetings where matters of interest could be discussed and closer relations maintained. ; In the matter of grand Juries Judge Knowles baa adopted a system that will certainly meet the appropriation of the tax payer as well aa litigants. The old way was upon the open tog ofthe court tod raw the grand Jury and the first few days of court all criminal work was at a standstill. The District Attorney was more than busy. Lnder the system of having the grand Jury meet the week, before court be gins, relieves all of the high pres sure and delay, wheh means expense. Again the grand Jury can be recalled at any time between court sessions.1 thus providing for further reduction in expense .when a orlsonor i)ro to plead gulty and begin serving his sentence and not ' be compelled to wait weeks in the county Jail waiting court to be in session. . One entire day may be spent by the visitor in "doing" free moving picture Bhows, so numerous are they, in the landings at the World's Fair a,t Se Me. , , ; The allurement of Niagara Falls for aeopl to Jump over the guard rails is well known. The beauty of the Cas cades at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Ex position with its myriad colored ' tights, had the same effect on a man at the fair opening. He Jumped in but was quickly fished out by the guards. Five girls from Frankfort Arsenal, Philadelphia, demonstrate the manu facture of small arm cartridges with "aetaal machinery in operation at the Oovernment building at the Alaska-Ynkon-Paclfic Exposition at Seattle. A monster sheep with a ton of fleece ea its back is one of the curiosities fat the Oregon building at the Seattle World's Fair. ; The fleece was taken iroin many sheep, one in each county : ef Uie state and Is on a wooden model , aa a display of the 'industry. 1 , f . ;. Hourly demonstrations are gtven by experts to show the results of this sort of defense. ; l$ ; : A new construction was given the Hepburn railway rate act by the court la several decisions notably that in . hhe so-called "commodities clause" litigation, wherein the court of last resort, although reversing the. lower Irlbunul's decisions that the clause, was unconstitutional, as to practically nullify the obvious intent with which It was enacted by Congress. , $- During the past term, several note worthy cases were disposed of by the Court. Some of these will go down In history because of their importance notably the famous $29,000,000 Stan dard Oil case, decided adversely to the Government by refusal of the Su prerae Court to review the decision of the Circuit Court of Appeals which had held against the fine. Of the 908 cases docketed with the Supreme Court of the United States during the session which closed last week, 578 still remain unacted upon. From the opening of the term, early in October, to the last decision day, 430 cases were decided by the court, a number of them having been left over from last year. Not.Blnce the passage of the Act of March 3, 1901 cresting Circuit Courts of Appeal for the particular purpose of diminishing , the work of the country's highest trib una!, have there been so many cases brought to the Court for decision or review, - otlce te Contractors.. Notice is hereby given, that sealed bids will be received at the office of the City Recorder up to 6 o'clock p. m. on Wednesday, June 2nd, 1909, for the construction of 1653 square feet of cement sidewalk at the Court House.
