With the reorganization of the Com
mercial club more than a year ago,
suid the birth of the Merchants' As
sociation there has been formed u sn

value to the city and county. Pulling

For the Meadowbrook irrigation
project we have to thank the Com
mercial club. It Is perhaps true that
the general membership of the dub
vera Dot directly interested In the
promotion of this, the most important
scheme, with the single, exception of
the Beavor Creek water system, that
has ever been recorded, in the history
of the progress of this part of Eastern
Oregon, but the men who are respon
sible for the plan, and who worked
almost night and day in the effort to
make the project a success, are with
out exception, members of the club.
According to the announcement of
-President Collier the general mem
bership will in the future be askel
to take more Interest in the affairs
that concern the organization.
Joe Simons election has set the pol
iticians to thinking all over the state,
some read between the lines, that his

whether or not he and Senator Bourne

Oscar F. Thompson who was sheriff
of Umatilla county in 1868, when the
county seat was located at .Umatilla.
The deceased was the father of Asa
B. Thompson, who for a few months
was receiver of the land office here. f
