m PLAY
FAST EMI
: All awry in the first canto, but ex
ceptionally fast and furious in subse
quent innings, La Grande trounced the
Elgin team, 23 to 5. It was a peculiar
game. In the first Nelson was slug
ged JeiTllfirally, and. abetted by. er
rors by Stoddard and Childers, Elgin
was able to tinkle the pan 'five times.
But there it ended. From then on. La
Grande played soma of the .cln8i8t
ball seenhere this year, .Nelson throw
ing splendidly and the team backiug
him up to the last notch. Elgin was
loose and: seemed unable to brace up
and work together. While the game
was one sided, La Grande never let up
for a moment, and thereby pleased the
fansvwho failed to see much ball play
ing when Elgin had their outs. 'It was
worth the money to see the locals,
niilchiue like actions. The Bhift in
players seems .to have straightened
the team. , . , , y
; Twlrler Nelson could depend upon
his -. backnton . ft mtm
streak of wildness, settled down to the
best throwing game of this year, for
him. .. ' "... .;; .
