Clyde Scheurer, postmaster at North Powder, is In the city today, calling on friends. W, J. Snodgrass arrived home this morning from a brief business visit to Union. A sidewalk is being constructed on the front side of the new :.i a M. building. Mrs. J. M. Kockensparger has re turned home from a visit with friends at Cove. Alia Leon Wade, who has oeeu in disposed for several days, is again at her poBt In the Newlin Book store. Attorney J. D. Slater left this morn ing for Enterprise where he has busi ness with the circuit court. C. R. Eberhard returned home to day from a professional visit to Enter prise. Miller returned this afternoon from Enterprise where he spent a few days looking after business inter ests. Walter Bunker formerly of this city, but now located at Milton, is here shaking hands with his friends. He arrived last evening. Chattin, re turned this morning to their home at Montpelicr, Idaho. Willie Fleming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fleming of North La Grande, is improving rapidly from a severe case of blood poisoning. He is yet at the hospital, but will soon be recov ered sufficiently to return to his home, arfordiner to the attending nhysician. N. Molitor. President Kerr of the state agri cultural college and Dr. James Whit . combe, passed through this morning en route to l uion where they will be joined by Regent Walter Pierce and thoy will look over the work and plans of the experiment station. IDS Mr. Taal, who Is grading the court bouse grounds, has laid his teams off and will level the ground by hand in order to save hauling top dressing. This does not mean that he Is trying to haul less of the top dressing than is required by the specifications of his contract, but that unless the ground Is made level he will have to haul a great deal more than is re quired to cover the ground to the re quired depth, two and one inches. CATCH MADE Five trout that vary iri-Iuegth be tween 34; and 36 inches, five others that measure 30 inches, and a dozen that measure between 18 and 19 inch es, is the story told of a remarkable me88 of fish landed by Adolph Newlin i nthe' wallowa river yesterday after noon. The string is a sight to tickle the fisherman. The largest weighed 14 pounds dressed, and required an even hour in catching. There are four others, almost as large, lacking but few pounds in weight.
