DRESSY CLOTHING FOR
MEN.
Every man owes it to himself and
his friends to be well dressed; Yes
a man's friends have a claim on
him; they many think highly of his
character and ability and yet wish
that he would look "more present
able." There may be differences
of opinion as to what is meant by
well dressed, but there is no ex
cuse for any La Grande man not
to be spic and span when, there "is
West's to come to.
MEN'S HATS
We arc showing ii number of new
blocks in soft and stiff hats.
We guarantee every hat to give
satisfaction, and the fact that we
very rarely are asked to make
good under that guarantee, shows
that the Gordon' hats in shlc, wear
and price do give satisfaction.
Just received by express some Millinery Models of the
Hour from the east. Something very new and striking.

PICKED yp
ON STREET
fow dnvs pen h little fellow prob
ably 25 years old, was picked up on
the street by the officers and locked
up in the county Jail. At that time
they thought he was under the In
fluence of some powerful drug, for he
hardly acted like even a crazy person.
He would not talk more than a few
words at a time, and ull efforts to help
hint get his bearings were unavailing.
Yesterday he was turned out for a
time and his movements watched.
Concluding that the man was insiine.
the officers again locked him up, and
this morning he was examined by the
county court, assisted by Dr. Bacon,
and adjudged a lit subject for the asy
lum. AVhen he would talk at all. It
was cither to swear or to dairn that
he used to be on a Spnnish warship.
He wrote his name as Juan t'rgaury.
